After the iris has flowered, in May and June, it produces a fusiform ( spindle shaped ) seed capsule, which is three angled and has a long beak on the end ( almost as long as the capsule ).
It has 1.8 cm long stamens, 1.5-2.8 cm long ovary, that is fusiform ( spindle shaped ), and a lavender or pale purple style branch, that is 3.5 cm long.
The male cones are solitary and erect, spindle shaped and cylindrical 15-23 long and 4 6 cm broad, with light yellow tomentose down and an erect apical spine with 1.2 2 cm sporophylls with 1-3 minute teeth per side.
