During World War II there was an advance landing ground nearby, used to support the D-Day landings.
Wing headquarters and subordinate units operated primarily from liberated airfields and newly built temporary Advanced Landing Grounds in continental Europe.
It is serverd by Chinyali Saur Airport which is used by the Indian Air Force as an Advanced Landing Ground.
In early February 1945 the group was moved to an Advanced Landing Ground at Breigny France ( A-48 ).
The station was captured by the Americans in April 1945 and designated as " Advanced Landing Ground Y-99 ".
